In 2005, I moved to New York City from the Midwest. I started babysitting with a friend on the Upper East Side while also working a full-time job. Families quickly connected with the warmth, playfulness, and love we brought to childcare. As word spread, more families reached out through referrals, and I began introducing my friends and co-workers who also loved babysitting.

That simple “referral-only” idea grew into something special. By 2009, my beloved babysitters club officially became Lucky Lil’ Darlings, LLC. We built a small, members-based childcare community that thrived on trust. Families felt safe welcoming new sitters into their homes, and sitters felt safe working with new families. By 2011, I proudly stepped into the role of CEO of Lucky Lil’ Darlings.

As the company continued to grow, I wanted a name that represented not just babysitters, but the full spectrum of childcare. In 2013, Lucky Lil’ Darlings became American Bell Family Company, named in honor of both my family and the families we serve. That same year, we acquired the New York Nanny Center, one of the city’s most respected nanny agencies. With that merger, we expanded from sitter services to include full and part time nanny placements.

By 2014, we launched our first online payment platform for babysitting appointments, making it even easier for families to book care. Between 2015–2017, we partnered with an app start-up that wanted an agency behind them, and their founder came to us. Through referrals and partnerships, our network grew to hundreds of providers and families.

When the pandemic hit, families across the country needed trusted childcare more than ever. What started in New York expanded nationwide — and today, Bell Family proudly services most major U.S. cities with nanny care.

Today, Bell Family Company is still a women-run childcare agency of 12 — licensed social workers, certified coaches, former BFC nannies and sitters, teachers, and working mothers. Together, we carefully match families with providers who are suited to their children’s specific developmental needs.
